SommPair uses artificial intelligence (“AI”) as a core part of the app experience. This page explains how AI is used within the app, what information may be shared when you use AI-powered features, and how that information is handled.
How SommPair Uses AI
SommPair uses AI systems to:
- Analyze photos of wine labels
- Identify wines, producers, and related bottle details
- Answer wine questions
- Generate tasting notes, pairing suggestions, and related insights
- Power recommendations and other AI-based app features
AI is used to support the core SommPair experience. It is intended to help users explore and understand wine information, but it does not replace personal judgment or professional advice.
What Information May Be Sent to the AI Provider
When you use AI-powered features in SommPair, the app may send the following information that you choose to submit:
- Text you enter
- Photos or images you upload
- Wine-related details you provide in the app
This information may be sent to OpenAI, SommPair’s third-party AI service provider, so the app can analyze labels, identify bottles, answer wine questions, and generate related AI-based responses and features.
Permission to Use AI Features
SommPair requests your permission before sending this information to OpenAI for AI-powered processing. Because AI is required for SommPair’s core functionality, you will need to grant this permission to use the app.
How Your Data Is Used
When you use SommPair:
- Text, photos or images, and wine-related details you submit may be processed to provide AI-powered responses and features
- Uploaded photos and related account data may be stored securely to support app features such as saved bottles and collections
- Data is used to provide the app’s requested functionality, including bottle identification, label analysis, recommendations, and conversational responses
SommPair does not sell personal data and does not use personal information to build advertising profiles.
Model Training
User-submitted photos, text, and related content are not intentionally used by SommPair to train public or general-purpose AI models.
Data may be processed by OpenAI strictly for the purpose of providing AI-powered functionality within the app, subject to applicable agreements and service terms.
Limitations of AI
AI systems are probabilistic and may occasionally produce incomplete, incorrect, or subjective results.
- Wine identification may not always be correct
- Tasting notes and pairing suggestions are informational and may be subjective
- Users should not rely on AI responses as professional, legal, medical, or other expert advice

SommPair is designed to keep users in control. Users decide what text, photos, images, and wine-related details to submit, what information to trust, and how to act on AI-generated insights.

- Delete stored content where available
